Taylor Swift sobs over dead man in ‘Amsterdam’ debut trailer

Taylor Swift is once again showing off her acting skills.

Last June, it was announced that the singer would star in director David O’Russell’s next big project — now the film’s title has finally been revealed and a first look at the film has been shared.

At this year’s CinemaCon, an industry convention for Hollywood studios, the first trailer for David O’Russell’s latest film amsterdam was shown to the public. Film executives described the film as a “detective epic”. According to the film’s official IMDB page, the synopsis reads, “Set in the 1930s, [Amsterdam] follows three friends who witness a murder, become suspects themselves, and uncover one of the most outrageous conspiracies in American history.

According to Varietythe film’s trailer shows Taylor standing over the body of a dead man in a box – presumably her character’s father – crying uncontrollably.

“You have a dead white man in a box. It’s not even a coffin, it doesn’t have a lid,” co-star Chris Rock said as Taylor continues to sob in mourning over the corpse. “You know who’s going to be in trouble? Black men.

The mystery new film has kept most of its details under wraps, except for its huge cast list. Some of the actors appearing in amsterdam alongside Taylor Swift and Chris Rock, the film’s main trio of Christian Bale, Margot Robbie and John David Washington, plus Rami Malek, Zoe Saldaña, Robert De Niro, Anya Taylor-Joy, Mike Myers, Timothy Olyphant and Michael Shannon – and that’s not even the full list.

Taylor has previously starred in a handful of live-action movies, like the 2010 romantic comedy Valentine’s Day2014 The donorand the musical film of 2019 Cats.

However, being part of such a star-studded ensemble in a high-profile drama like amsterdam definitely marks a new chapter in the singer-songwriter’s acting career.

Although we may have to wait a bit for the amsterdam trailer to share with the rest of the world to see for ourselves, we can at least look forward to the film’s confirmed release date: the film will be released on November 4, 2022.
