Elemental: cast, release date of the next Pixar film!

Elementary, Pixar’s 27th film, was also updated to D23 for live audiences today, with an announcement that a June 16, 2023 release and one of the casting calls were announced.

As soon as they arrived in 2022, director and producer, Pete Sohn, took to the stage to talk about the upcoming film. “I felt right to tell a story about someone who’s already made a sacrifice or taken a risk, and set them in the big city, but with a twist,” Ream said.

The duo announced that Wade was portrayed by Mamoudou Athie (The Circle, Jurassic World Dominion) and Ember by Leah Lewis (Nancy Drew, The Half of It).

D23 audiences have seen animation and concept art footage that explores the question of what life would be like if what made you different was literally what you would be made of. How do you get on the train? What about sports? There was also an exclusive movie that shed light on Ember and Wade’s relationship.

Elemental was announced earlier this year with a single piece of concept art. Elemental is a town where the townspeople live together. Ember, a feisty young woman, and Wade, a water-aware guy, find that they shared a much greater share of power, even though they were obvious differences.

This film was inspired by Peter Sohn’s childhood in New York. My parents immigrated to Korea in the 1970s and built a busy grocery store in the Bronx, he said. We were among many families who ventured into a new country with dreams, with dreams and dreams, joining us all in a big bowl of cultures, languages and cute little neighborhoods. This led me to Elemental.

Our story is based on a classic element that consists of fire, water, earth and air, Sohn continued. Some elements have their own composition. What if these elements were alive?
